Utah Metal Works strives to provide the best possible safety, service, and benefits to our employees and customers. We realize that it takes team work, attitude, communication, and dedication to achieve the satisfaction an success of a winner. Our doors are always open to new ideas that will keep us strong competitively and achieve the growth and stability required in our efforts to be the very best in the metal recycling industry. Our strength comes from long-standing traditions combined with innovative ideas, producing the best results for our employees, customers and community.

Founded by Hymie Goldman in the late 1920’s, Utah Metal Works originally had more to do with the manufacturing of electrotype and linotype printing plates than it did with scrap metal. After Goldman passed away in 1955, UMW was purchased by Harry Lewon and his two brothers Rubin and Louis. The Lewon brothers folded the printing plate business and redirected all of the company’s resources to the scrap end of the business. Shortly after the business changed hands, UMW moved to its current location on Everett Avenue in Salt Lake City where since that time it has continued to grow, expand, and thrive. Today, the business is run by Harry’s son Don and Don’s sons Mark and Chris who are committed to maintaining the company’s long-standing tradition of excellence, integrity, and fairness.

We have been a trusted metal recycling company for 55 years, and we intend to continue setting the highest standards of integrity in the business.

In order to protect our customers as well as the community at large we:

  • Deter and prevent theft by working closely with police to nab suspects who attempt to fence stolen scrap metals for material gain.
  • Require the showing and recording of state or federally-issued I.D for all transactions (with the exception of aluminum can recycling).
  • Videotape every transaction: All of our premises are under 24-hour surveillance.
  • Digitally capture all signatures (as of June, 2010).
  • Use state-certified scales for your protection and peace of mind.
  • Treat all of our employees with dignity and respect: At Utah Metal works, we are a family.

Reviews

First time there but the guy that helped me unload and weigh my brass was awesome to work with. They gave me what seemed like a fair price for it. The office lady was quite helpful too.

These people are like a big happy family all working together like a well oiled machine. Love doing business with this company

I am completely unfamiliar with the scrap metal business, but we needed somewhere to take our mountain of aluminum cans to recycle. These folks were close and my boys each walked away with twenty bucks in their pockets, which made them happy. A little hard to find, but Google maps solves that easily.
