Aluminum cans are welcome. So is the rest of the metal sitting in the garage, the attic, or the shed: wire, brass, radiators, batteries, and more. Residents drop off at the yard. We do not pick up household loads.

Industrial scrap
Shops, demo contractors, and plants use us for non-ferrous loads. We supply containers, pick up on a route or on call, and pay the way you want to be paid.

Arrive at least 30 minutes before closing so we can weigh and pay you.

A family yard
Utah Metal Works strives to provide the best possible safety, service, and benefits to our employees and customers. It takes teamwork, attitude, communication, and dedication to do that. Our doors are open to ideas that keep us competitive. Strength here comes from long-standing habits combined with new ones, for our employees, our customers, and the city.
Founded by Hymie Goldman in the late 1920s, Utah Metal Works originally had more to do with electrotype and linotype printing plates than with scrap metal. After Goldman died in 1955, Harry Lewon and his brothers Rubin and Louis bought the company. They closed the plate business and put everything into scrap. The yard moved to Everett Avenue in Salt Lake City and has grown there since. Today it is run by Harry's son Don and Don's sons Mark and Chris.
We have been a trusted metal recycling company for 55 years, and we intend to keep the standard where it is. To protect customers and the city we:
- Work with police when someone tries to sell stolen metal.
- Record a state or federal ID for every transaction except aluminum cans.
- Videotape every transaction. The premises are under 24-hour surveillance.
- Capture signatures digitally (since June 2010).
- Weigh on state-certified scales.
- Treat employees as family.
